SET ON 11 ACRES of lush pastureland and remnant rainforest near Montville, The Country House at Hunchy - one of the hinterland's most elegant luxury B&Bs - was officially opened on 12th September at a gala function hosted by new owners, Judith and Ian Strachan.
A modern Queenslander with impeccably decorated private suites, a huge reception area, wide verandahs, gorgeous inground pool and spectacular views, this grand homestead was purpose-built for honeymoons and romantic getaways.
"We wanted to open a really special bed and breakfast, something with generous spaces plus a genuine country feel," said Judith. "Our combined experience in hospitality and horticulture allowed us to instantly recognise this home's fabulous potential - especially when it comes to romance and weddings.
"A bride can base herself here with her bridesmaids for the total pampering and luxury package - massage, hair, makeup - depart from here to a ceremony in Montville or Maleny after having some exquisite photos taken in our garden, and then return with her husband for the wedding night and honeymoon.
"It's the perfect spot, totally private and incredibly romantic."
Judith, who for five years owned the charming Forget-Me-Nots boutique in Montville, has designed The Country House at Hunchy's interiors with flawless attention to detail.
"This is a contemporary country house, large and luxurious, and I've loved personally selecting all the furnishing and accessories. I have a long-standing passion for beautiful embroidered white linen and other lovely things, so that’s reflected in the way I've decorated the suites," she said.
"When people go away for a break they want everything to be perfect, so that's been our aim all along - to provide our guests with absolute tranquility and privacy, luxury and romance, a totally relaxing and memorable getaway. This is a magnificent place. We feel extremely privileged to be here, and to have the opportunity of sharing it with others."
Celebrating with Judith and Ian at the official opening were Marie Dillon-Krech from Ruby & Rose Interiors in Montville, Julie & Ian Reimers and David & Dean Gamble from Maleny & Hinterland Realty, Montville post-mistress Susan Johnston, Rebekah Radov from Montville's Impulse Boutique, friends Robyn & Neville Wright from Brisbane and Robin Ross from the Gold Coast, neighbours Ruve & Andrew Walter, Sharyn Peacocke from Montville Maleny Weddings, and Loma Carter from one of Hunchy's original families.
