THE SUNSHINE COAST HINTERLAND'S reputation as an outstanding tourist destination has been upped another notch by The Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat in Montville winning the coveted 4.5 star Hosted Accommodation category in the HMAA* 2010 National Accommodation Industry Awards for Excellence announced September 24.

The Narrows Escape, which also picked up the HMAA Property of the Year Finalist Award, offers self-contained accommodation for couples only. Nestled in two hectares of pristine rainforest bordering Kondalilla National Park, it provides a romantic getaway for honeymooners and jaded city-dwellers seeking a luxurious weekend or mid-week tree change.

One such couple is Gary and Maria Wyeth of Brisbane (pictured bottom right) who opted for a Hinterland honeymoon at The Narrows Escape following their city wedding.

"Wow, it was truly a wonderful stay - the food, the cottage and the surroundings," said Maria. "Honestly, it was perfect. This was our first stop on our honeymoon and the best stop out of the whole holiday. Everything was arranged to perfection. We will be coming back for our first, second and more anniversaries if life lets us."

With six beautifully appointed private cottages, luxury is guaranteed at The Narrows Escape, along with what proprietors Mark and Joanne Skinner (pictured top left) describe as an "unexpected level of customer service" – a "yes" attitude. Their resort's environmental authenticity is also a major priority for this dedicated couple. And they excel on all fronts, due in no small part to their combined personal and professional ideology.

"When we bought this place four years ago, we invested not only in a business but in a lifestyle for our families," said Joanne. "It allows us a happy, healthy work-life balance which is hard to find these days. I think our contentment shows and, when you combine that with this magnificent natural wonderland, you have a truly memorable tourism experience. That's our aim – to have our guests wanting to return time and time again."

Adds Mark: "We've had a fun and productive 12 months, our aim being to raise the profile of our piece of paradise on the local, domestic and international stage – not just The Narrows Escape but this whole beautiful region. It's a labour of love, a commitment we take seriously. And given our success in this year’s HMAA Awards for Excellence, it seems we're succeeding."
